Hoogland: Valorant partnered teams might release their academy rosters in 2023 Rumors

Future Valorant franchise league partners may have to release their academy rosters in 2023. The issue is the Ascension events that allow Challenger teams to climb into VCT top leagues. Bo Hoogland shared this information on Twitter, citing his sources.

The academy teams will not be allowed into promotion tournaments, which makes them less appealing to the upcoming talent. The organizations or Riot Games will have to rebuild how the academy teams operate, or they might cease to exist.

TSM, T1, NAVI, and other teams have or plan to have academy rosters. Cloud9 released their squad in July. One way to continue operations is a "potential academy league, but they scrapped that idea last time."

On August 16, Riot announced their idea on how to support the tier-2 scene. There will be 21 regional leagues inheriting Challengers status. These will be open and provide an opportunity to play in Ascension Events. Its winners will join VCT leagues for two years, competing with partners on equal terms.
