Faker wins his fifth Worlds trophy with T1
2024-11-03 08:36:00T1 beat Bilibili Gaming in the grand final of League of Legends World Championship 2024. The bo5 series ended up on the final map with the score of 3:2. The legendary midlaner Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok raised the trophy for the fifth time in his career.
The Korean superstar made some crucial plays in the 4th and 5th games and was named the MVP of the whole tournament. Faker previously won Worlds in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2023.
T1 had never lost a bo5 series to an LPL team before this match, and this streak continued. On their way through the playoffs, Faker and his teammates defeated GenG and TES.
Worlds 2024 was held in Europe from September 25 to November 2. The tournament's prize pool was at least $2.25 million. Berlin, Paris, and London hosted the matches. Linkin Park headlined the opening ceremony, and the official tournament anthem, Heavy is the Crown, was performed live.
The Worlds 2024 viewership established a new record in esports. It was watched by almost 7 mln fans on peak (excluding Chinese platforms). The previous all-time high of 5.9 mln was also scored at Worlds in 2023.
