Skarner gets buffed as jungler and nerfed as top laner three days after his VGU release in League of Legends

Riot Games released a balance micropatch to address the issues with the new reworked Skarner. As Lead Game Designer Matt "Phroxzon" Leung-Harrison explained on Twitter, the champion was nerfed as a top laner and buffed as a jungler.

Skarner's changes

  • Mana Growth: 60 >>> 45
  • (P) Monster Damage Cap: 75-250 >>> 100-300
  • (Q) Monster Damage Cap: 100/175/250/325/400 >>> 150/225/300/375/450
  • (W) Mana Cost: 40/45/50/55/60 >>> 50/55/60/65/70
  • (E) Cooldown: 24/22/20/18/16 >>> 20/19/18/17/16

We think despite his low average winrates, he's still quite strong but has several optimizations that need to be learned (e.g. Q before E, etc.)

Another thing we've heard a lot about is about how heavy his Q feels in pulling the rock and standing still. We're trying to thread the needle between impactful & adding sufficient counterplay. We want this ability to hit like a truck, and having Skarner channel for a bit to let that be fair is a work in progress.

Skarner's visual and gameplay update came out with League of Legends patch 7.14, released on April 3. This hotfix is framed as a temporary solution. Players should expect "larger swings at the top lane" in the next patch.
