Officially: Schalke 04 to sell their LEC slot for $30 million2021-06-29 15:41:00
Schalke 04 Esports, a part of multi-sports club Schalke from Gelsenkirchen, Germany, confirmed that they sell their League of Legends European Championship slot after the end of Summer Split 2021. The slot is bought by Team BDS, a Swiss esports organization. It currently holds Lol (LFL League), Fortnite, Rainbow Six, FIFA, Rocket League, Trackmania, and Valorant teams.
As of rumors, Schalke 04 financially suffered a lot from the COVID-19 pandemic. The football club that used to be in the upper half of the German championship has dropped to the Bundesliga 2 and is looking for any financial resources.
Schalke 04 Esports opened their Lol roster in 2016. They qualified for EU LCS in 2017 and then became a part of the LEC franchise league. Their best result in the league so far was second place in EU LCS 2018 Summer Playoffs.
