Kez is first hero to get Aghanim's Scepter on release since 2015

Dota 2's new character, bird samurai Kez, received his Aghanim's Scepter on day one. This is a rare occurrence in the game, and something that hasn't been done since 2015. The last hero to get the artifact on release was Arc Warden, who was ported from DotA Allstars.

Interestingly enough, Valve chose the hardest characters to be even more overloaded with options on release. Kez is the only hero to have three stars in his complexity level in the last few years, and, once again, Arc Warden was the last one.

For a while, not every hero had an Aghanim's special ability, although they were allowed to buy the item. In a massive update in 2019, Valve shipped Scepters for every character in the game but continued adding new heroes without the initial upgrade. The recently added Dota 2 characters typically has been getting Aghanim's Scepters shortly after making it to the game. Hoodwink was a special case, as she was even forbidden from buying one until some point.

Kez came out on November 8. He is one of the characters of Crownfall event, teased in early comics, and fully featured in the last one. The bird samurai is fighting against queen Imperia, the sister of Vengeful Spirit. A leaked line of code suggests that the next character might be called Bard Frog.
