Kez was released faster than any hero in last 10 years in Dota 2
2024-11-08 11:17:00The new Dota 2 hero, bird samurai Kez, arrived shortly after Ringmaster. The previous character was released on August 22, only 76 days ago. This is the shortest period between hero releases in ten years.
Excluding characters released in pairs, Valve has been taking their time when bringing new heroes. And it slowed down even more after Primal Beast's arrival in February of 2022, as the fans only got Muerta and Ringmaster since then.
Last time when heroes came out in such quick succession was more than 10 years ago. After Legion Commander, the developers shipped Phoenix and Terrorblade in less than two months. Needless to say that these characters weren't build from the scratch but ported from DotA Allstars.
Kez is also the first three-star difficulty hero in Dota 2 in ages. By Valve's own standards of complexity, the last one was Arc Warden, ported to the game in 2015.
Kez came out with Crownfall Act IV on November 8, 2024. The hero is featured in the event's lore, and was officially announced at The International 2024. Meanwhile, dataminers discovered lines related to next possible hero, Bard Frog.
