Team Liquid, 33, and iNSaNiA establish new records at The International 2024
2024-09-16 11:54:00The International 2024 triumphants, Team Liquid, broke a few records in Dota 2's history. First, they were the first team to have a flawless playoff run. Tundra had the best result before them, but they lost one map at TI11.
Neta "33" Shapira became the first player to ever win two events with completely different rosters. The same stands true for Team Liquid as an organization. KuroKy's roster lifted the trophy for them at TI7.
Aydin "INSaNiA" Sarkohi became the oldest champion of The International. He did it at the age of 30. Before him, the Aegis had never been won by a player over 27. The closest to iNSaNiA were Jingjun "Sneyking" Wu and Clinton "Fear" Loomis, among other pros of the same age.
Also, this lineup had the longest-lasting roster core before raising the trophy: MiCKe, iNSaNiA, and Boxi. They played together for almost seven years. Thanks to them, Sweden can count this as its first Aegis since The Alliance's victory at TI3.
The weirdest achievement is that this was Team Liquid's first tier-1 LAN victory, as noted by boxi in the post-match interview. The squad's best result was ESL One Germany 2020, which was held online. They lost nine tournament grand finals before breaking the curse at Elite League 2024 S2, but the event lacked top-tier opposition. As part of this losing streak, Liquid lost five deciding series to Gaimin Gladiators before TI13.
