Capitalist claims Valve stopped organizing The Internationals: "PGL is fully taking the reins of TI2024" Rumors

Dota 2 caster Austin "Capitalist" Walsh claimed that Valve would not take part in running The International 2024 and that the event would be "entirely in control of PGL." The publisher distances from operating as the organizer of future TIs as well. He shared this on stream while watching Elite League 2024 S2.

If you ever get a chance to go to TI, I highly recommend it right now. I imagine this next TI will be good. PGL is fully taking the reins on this next TI, so I imagine they'll do a very good job of it, because it's the first time the product is entirely in their control. I don't know if TI will maintain the status for the years to come, with it not being the Valve product. I mean, just naturally, we can imagine TI will become less of a thing, but TI is the premier esports experience.

The news came as a shock to many Dota 2 fans. They question whether Valve will at least continue contributing to the prize pool and releasing in-game content related to The International. The most likely answer is yes, because the developers have already announced the standard initial pot of $1.6 mln, and data miners have found plenty of evidence of the upcoming Compendium.

Valve has been less and less involved in running Dota 2 esports for a while. TI11 had signs of the upcoming changes with the new format, which focused on the final weekend and gave PGL more freedom in terms of financial decisions. This was also the first event to not have True Sight. For The International 2023, Valve replaced Battle Pass with Compendium, separating gameplay and esports events. Later, they dropped the DPC league and the Majors.

The International 2024 will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, from September 4 to 15. This year, the event features 16 teams instead of 20. The complete list of participants is available below.
