Valve honors memory of YammerS in Dota Plus update
2023-06-02 11:13:00On June 1 Valve Corporation released a seasonal Dota Plus update. It included a new treasure, new quests and guild rewards. And one of such rewards is a voice line from Chinese caster Mi "YammerS" Hongwei, who committed suicide at the end of May.
The reward can be accessed by reaching platinum guild tier by completing quests. The voiceline reads as 再见了,宝贝儿, which can be translated as “See ya, Baby”.
Hongwei was suffering from depression due to many childhood traumas. After his father's death the illness became worse, and in the end YammerS decided to take his life at the age of 26. In an accompanying post on Weibo he told his life story and shared details of his traumas, including abuse and bullying.
YammerS was one of the best Chinese casters and had many top tier events under his belt. He started his career in 2018 and worked on three TIs, China Supermajor, DAC 2018, and other events.
