Zai: "In this Tour, we can see individuality from a bunch of different offlaners with their own heroes" Interview

Team Liquid's player Ludwig "Zai" Wahlberg spoke to the panel at DPC WEU 2023 broadcast after defeating Gaimin Gladiators in Tour 3. He gave his opinion on offlane meta, including Techies, and explained how they managed to finally beat their rivals.

On Techies

Most people know that Techies is quite strong right now, but I think it's probably one of the better heroes. It's quite strong at all stages of the game, especially in the laning phase, where it's just stupid. And I'm playing with Boxi, who is just good Techies. My hero pool is kind of freed up to be whatever we need. Today it was dumb strength heroes, so yeah, it works out.

How did Liquid manage to beat Gaimin Gladiators?

I don't know. They're very good. And we look up to them but also hate losing to them. It definitely feels good to beat them, but I would say both of our teams right now are maybe not in top shape. Maybe when we're both kinda overweight, we are a bit better. So let's see in the upcoming tournaments. But they're always fun to play and an amazing team, so I'm looking forward towards more matches against them as well.

Offlane innovations

For sure, there's going to be more experimentation. I think after the Major, people started experimenting with heroes a bit more. They started moving away from auras a little bit. They were also nerfed to some extent. Heroes are counter-shifting in another direction, and I think, at least in this Tour, we can see individuality from a bunch of different offlaners. They have their own heroes that I am probably going to steal at some point once I figure out what's good or not. Ace is playing his normal stuff. We're experimenting, and probably more to come.
