Noxville: “If you’re genuinely the 7th best team in your region you shouldn’t get auto-relegated”

DatDota developer and analyst Ben ‘Noxville’ Steenhuisen suggested changing the structure of the Dota Pro Circuit season. According to him, Valve should expand Upper Division up to 12 teams in the second season of the league.

Noxville added, that teams from the Upper Division shouldn’t be relegated in the second season of DPC even if they finish last.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: if you’re genuinely the 7th best team in your region you shouldn’t get auto-relegated and spend the 2nd season each year in the Lower Bracket — which forces you to have to do TI last-ditch qualifiers.

My best solution to this is:

— no relegation from the upper div, but two teams are promoted (i.e. upper div is 10 teams for 2nd season)

— 2nd season prize money for 9th/10th in the upper division is the same as 1st/2nd in the lower division

— bottom 2 from lower div can do S2 qualifiers

The first DPC season started on January 20. Teams from the Upper Division compete for $205,000 and slots at ONE Esports Singapore Major 2021. The Lower Division $75,000 will be raffled.
