What is Gris-Gris? When to sell item from Witch Doctor's innate ability in Dota 2
In patch 7.36, Dota 2 heroes received new innate abilities. Witch Doctor's one is Gris-Gris. He is a popular hero, and this item is confusing some people with its function. Let's guide you how to use Gris-Gris the right way.
How Witch Doctor's innate Gris-Gris works
On the start of the game, the hero receives an item called Gris-Gris. It can't be placed in your backpack or dropped out of the inventory on the ground. Its main function is building up a gold stash: it receives 1 gold every 3 seconds. It also adds all the gold you are losing upon death to the counter. When you consume the item, you get all the gold you collected so far, and the item disappears.
How to use and when to sell Gris-Gris
Biggest question is how to use that item the best way? Its main point is giving a support a needed boost of gold. So, there are two scenarios: The game is somewhat equal/your team is stomping, or you are dying a lot and falling behind. In the first case, Gris-Gris will be a good tool to ensure your lead stays in place and help you with buying some of the luxury items. Without you dying, the item gets 20 gold per minute, which means 600 gold in 30 minutes.
But when your team is falling behind and you are dying a lot, there is a big temptation to keep the item to collect as much gold as possible. But you have to fight that desire. What you need to do is to align that gold boost with finishing one of your crucial items and catching people off guard: Aghanim's Scepter, Black King Bar, or Blink Dagger. It would be even better if one of your cores would also get some crucial item at this point to receive a big team power spike.
