This makes the Mongolz the first-ever squad from Asia to get that far in a Valve tournament. It took 21 Majors and 11 years for a team from that region to reach the playoffs. Before that, the best results were multiple 12th-14th finishes by TyLoo.
Mongolz bested Heroic in an exhausting bo3. They were beaten on Mirage but had a strong start on the second map. However, the opponents took it to overtime, and the Asian squad had to come back. The decider on Ancient went significantly easier for Mongolz.
PW Shanghai 2024 is the first Major to be hosted in Asia. It features 24 teams fighting for $1.25 mln prize pool and a share of sticker money. Asia as a CS2 region was united with the Pacific before Antwerp Major 2022. An Australian team had better achievement in the past, as Renegades reached the semis of StarLadder Berlin Major 2019.
