S1mple on Shanghai Major RMR: "How is this even possible? Who changes the rules during tournaments?"
2024-11-23 15:54:00Inactive CS2 player Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev criticized the developers after the sudden rule change at the Shanghai Major 2024 RMR. He couldn't believe they did this amidst the competition.
I don't quite understand how this can ever happen. In one group, you get Legend slots based on [VRS] seeding, and in the other group, you are told that they are giving out spots based on the Buchholz system [ESN: S1mple means they're based on RMR results].
How is this even possible? What other sports or Esports change the rules during tournaments? I wonder what the reason behind the decision to change the rules was.
At Shanghai Major 2024 RMR, Valve initially allowed Perfect World to seed teams based on RMR results. However, later, the developers switched back to the original Major rulebook set, which uses Valve's ranking for stage seeding. This way, they nullified some of the RMR's results.
S1mple was also upset that Valve didn't credit Emil "Magisk" Reif for finding and reporting a game-breaking bug in CS2. On Telegram, he revealed they reported an issue a day before the start of the RMR. The glitch allowed to see opponents crossing smokes with specific settings. The developers fixed the issue a day before the competition started.
S1mple suspects some of the teams might've used the bug at previous events. He claims that Magisk spent two weeks studying this glitch. The Ukrainian wasn't able to recreate it on his setup.
