G2 CEO reveals what will happen to m0NESY after NiKo's departure
2024-11-02 08:40:00G2 Esports CEO Alban Dechelotte shed some light on the future of their roster. He didn't deny the rumors about Nikola "NiKo" Kovac leaving after the Major and revealed that Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov's contract would last until at least the end of 2025. They hope that the AWPer will stay with them as a main star. Alban shared this with MGG France, parts of the interview were translated by French insider neL on X.
"In any case, m0NESY has a contract of more than a year. It's up to us. For him to leave, we'll have to accept that. I think he has a special relationship with NiKo, he's been his mentor, he admires him a lot, NiKo helped him a lot in his career.
But today, he's also the best player in the world, and he has an opportunity to become the leader of the roster in his own right. So we're working on what the G2 CS roster will look like in the future. For us, Ilya is at the heart of the project.
G2 CEO also revealed that they could've tried to hold onto NiKo but decided to let him go. He thinks it's the right decision for "this moment or a phase of this roster. Alban hinted that they signed Mario "malbsMD" Samaoya to take over NiKo's position after the star's departure. He implied the org is looking for an anchor.
But the fact that we signed malbs in July, when he's playing the same positions as NiKo, maybe it's a bit of anticipation of what's to come, and maybe we're already working on who will replace malbs in his anchor position, and he could move into the positions that NiKo will be leaving at the end of December.
NiKo is supposed to leave after Shanghai Major 2024. There were rumors that m0NESY is going to follow the rifler but no credible reports. Richard Lewis, in a recent video dedicated to Falcons' future, said he couldn't corroborate these rumors.
