Valve changes nade and knife XP in Casual to stop Armory Pass abuse, players find other ways to grind and farm credits

Valve has restricted extra XP earned for utility, and knife kills in several modes of CS2. Casual, Competitive, and Wingman modes no longer provide bonus scores. The changes were made after The Armory update, as the players started farming XP in the most efficient ways. They spoiled the experience for everyone else who wanted to enjoy the game, especially in Casual mode.

October 4 CS2 update

  • Adjusted the score calculation in Casual, Competitive, and Wingman to exclude knife and utility damage
  • Fixed 3rd person weapon angles to fully incorporate recoil
  • Fixed missing cascade shadows on some community maps
  • Fixed the Armory weapon preview having extra models
  • Network jitter graphs now have a number in the upper right-hand corner that gives the scale of the graph
  • Fixed some cases where shell casings could render as an error model
  • Various stability fixes

However, this did not stop players from grinding the XP for Armory Passes. They continued running down to agreed points to kill each other as fast as possible, particularly in Casual, which offers the best reward in the shortest time. Also, farm community servers appeared, providing XP outside of the official matchmaking.

So far, Valve hasn't addressed the ongoing issue. Since the last patch was dropped on Friday, maybe additional changes will be applied tomorrow, on October 7. Until then, there's always a chance to encounter farmers in Casual and possibly other modes.
