CS2 average FPS decreases by 10% after first year, according to benchmark
2024-09-10 10:47:00Dataminer and CS2 enthusiast Thour shared the results of CS2 benchmarks he's been running since the game's release in late September 2023. The tests showed a decrease in average FPS over the year for all the maps. Thour used the same setup, although the methods weren't specified in his X posts.
The results vary from 6% to 15% loss. On average, CS2 provides 10% FPS less than the original version. Since Thour did not specify his methods and precautions, you can't assume the game became 10% worse on average for everyone — these results are truly applicable only for his PC.
There is a silver lining when it comes to lowest FPS points, which many consider the most important metric, as this is when the FPS starts to dip, ruining the smooth feeling. Some maps had performed slightly better, but on average, the decrease was still there.

CS2 came out on September 27 after half a year of beta testing. The game is mostly a recreation of CS:GO on Source 2 engine, with new features, such as improved lighting and shadows, volumetric smokes, and subtick system. There were multiple patches addressing optimization since the release. Recently, modders have released a benchmark test map, where you can test the game without additional software. The article below explains how to run it.
