ESL allows both Snap Tap keyboards and null binds on FACEIT, despite banning the latter on ESEA
2024-08-01 10:58:00FACEIT released an update confirming that null binds and keyboards with Snap Tap functions are allowed on the CS2 platform. Fans were uncertain about this since another ESL service, ESEA, recently banned the console scripts that helped counter-strafing. The difference was explained in the blog post on FACEIT.
We've been closely monitoring the discussion around snap tap/SOCD and will be allowing players to use these features on FACEIT, in line with ESL Pro Tour rules, and to foster a balanced and accessible atmosphere on the platform. Regarding null binds, our current stance is to allow these configs on the wider FACEIT platform as per our cheating FAQs.
The ESEA League and ESL Pro Tour Open Qualifiers follow EPT rules, which do not allow null binds. We understand the controversy surrounding these features is fierce, and have not taken these decisions lightly. We're constantly driven by the desire to make FACEIT a fair and competitive place to play, and will keep on top of new developments — both from Valve and the community — for peripherals and their firmware to make sure we can make the correct decisions, and share them with you in due time.
The update is a relief for those who were scared of a FACEIT or VAC ban for using null binds. The Snap Tap movement has been discussed in the community for a few weeks. While many consider its advantage to be overblown, the consensus is to either allow or ban both null binds and keyboards.
The previous ESEA restriction infuriated fans who saw this as a ruling favoring pay-to-win since the platform didn't ban Razer or Wooting keyboards.
