The MongolZ win YaLLa Compass 2024, first S-tier trophy for Asia in almost 14 years
2024-06-09 18:09:00The MongolZ outplayed Ninjas in Pyjamas in the grand final of Yalla Compass 2024. They won the bo3 series with a score of 2:1 — Ancient (12:16), Mirage (13:7), Nuke (13:6).
This is a historic win for the whole region. No Asian squad has ever won or even reached a grand final at an S-Tier event in CS2 and CS:GO before MongolZ. This is also their second trophy in a row, as they claimed 1st place at MESA Nomadic Masters Spring at the beginning of June.
The last time an Asian team raised an S-Tier trophy was almost 14 years ago when Korean WeMade Fox finished first in World eSports Masters 2010 in CS 1.6. Coincidentally, Keun-chul "solo" Kang, from that exact lineup, won the first Masters in Valorant today as a coach of Gen.G.
YaLLa Compass 2024 was held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from June 5 to 9. While not the most significant tournament in the current landscape, It is still rated as S-Tier on Liquipedia. It features a solid $400,000 prize pool and top teams like Astralis, FURIA, Complexity, HEROIC, and Eternal Fire.
