Insider explains how CS:GO Source 2 shift will happen, says "it can be dropped any day now" Rumors2023-03-07 12:05:00
Based on the recent Steam file changes, Insider Aquarius shed some light on the upcoming Counter-Strike 2 (or CS:GO Source 2). He compared it to the way Dota 2 moved to Dota 2 Reborn, the Source 2 version of MOBA, and explained how the shift would happen in CS:GO.
The game just received new depots in Steam files, which echoes Dota's transition. The new AppID 2279720 is supposed to be the actual Source 2 game. The important thing about Dota 2 Reborn app is that it was used for the beta test and then retired. Similarly, CS:GO Source 2 will supposedly run alongside the default game until the beta is over. Then the app will be abandoned, and CS:GO will be moved to a new version.
Aquarius expect CS:GO Source 2 beta to "be dropped any day now". He also points at new strings of the latest Dota 2 update, mentioning skins and other CS:GO cosmetics, assuring worried fans that they will be safe during the shift to the new engine.
CS:GO Source 2 can be dropped ANY day now. It will be a free opt-in DLC that will be available to anyone who'd like to participate in beta testing. It's real, and it's happening.
It's also worth mentioning, that new CS:GO strings have been found in the latest major Dota 2 update. Things like skins, stickers, legacy texture files, etc.
Once again, no new games. Your skins are safe and will be available on Source 2!
According to Richard Lewis, the new game will most probably be called Counter-Strike 2, but a some of insiders disagree. They think it will simply continue running on a new engine. Whichever the case, the new CS will reportedly have 128-tick servers, optimized graphics, and a new improved matchmaking system created to reduce dependence on third-party platforms.
