Insider: Levitation mod could've been an official DLC for Half-Life: Alyx, but the talks fell through Rumors2022-11-26 12:30:00
Update from November 26 17:20 CET: FMPONE denied the insider claims, saying that "such a discussion never occurred".
Original article: Valve Corporation wanted to buy Half-Life: Alyx modification Levitation from its authors. The developers wanted to release it as an official DLC for the game. The information was shared by insider Maxim "Gabe Follower" Poletayev in Russian on his Telegram.
He didn't specify, in what capacity and on which terms the company wanted to buy the project. No info on why the negotiations weren't successful either.
Interesting fact from behind the scenes. Valve tried to buy this project and release it as an official DLC, but the talks fell through.
Valve is known for cooperating with community authors, as some of their biggest games grew up from mods, and Levitation project lead Shawn "FMPONE" Snelling is no stranger to that. He is one of the creators of multiple Counter-Strike: Global Offensive maps, including Cache, Subzero and Santorini. Besides him, there are 10 people listed in the credits of the Levitation.
Poletayev highly praised the project. He tested it a year ago, and found it ready for release back then, but the developers decided to polish it further.
I was honoured to be one of the playtesters of this project, and it was fully polished and ready for release a year ago. But the developers decided to take more time to make it even better. This is the best community-made content I've ever seen. I recommend everyone to try it out!
