Sdy: "I was told I won Dota LAN at 7 and CS one at 9, but I don’t remember any of that" Interview

Victor "somedieyoung" Orudzhev gave an interview to NAVI's YouTube channel after joining them as a stand-in on loan. He spoke about his career, negotiations with the club, and his time in Team Spirit. He also shared memories from his childhood when he was already playing CS:GO.

I don't really have any memories of when I first discovered CS, but my dad got me on the computer when I was three and showed me CS 1.5. I've been playing pretty much since that time. Just clicked some buttons.

So I was clicking some buttons, and this is where it got me. I do have pictures of that time, and my parents told me about that. I remember myself since I was 6, but there are things I don't have any memories of. I was told I won a Dota LAN when I was 7, and a CS one when I was 9, but I don't remember any of that.

On his study and esports career

I was just playing games and studying. My family was strict in this regard: I had to go to university, which I didn't really want to. I realized I wanted to quit during the second year and decided to commit to esports. I mean, it was really important for them.

Sdy attended the WCG 2005 qualifier as a viewer with his dad playing in it

It wasn't the final stage of the tournament but the Ukrainian qualifier held in Lviv in 2005. I attended it with my dad. He was a player and an IGL for a team from Rivne. If I'm not mistaken, the team was called BT5 (Best Team Five). So I attended with them and watched them play. I wasn't allowed to play myself at the time because I was only 8 or 9. They lost the semifinal for a spot on the main stage, but I don't remember whom they were facing.

On his time with Team Spirit

It was a long period. At first, I was on the team called Dream with Certus, who was my coach on Team Spirit. When he decided to become a coach, he asked me to join him because he liked the way I played. We stayed on Team Spirit together all the time. There were bad and good times when we'd gain good momentum and play at a really good level. Being on Spirit was a valuable experience and I'm grateful to them for that. I would never say anything negative about them. It's a great organization and all the players are good. This period was one of the most important in my life.

What prevented Team Spirit from making it to the tier-1 level?

To be honest, I think that all five players on the team and the coach have to share a common goal and avoid any arguments that might negatively affect their work towards that goal. We always had some issues. Someone lacked faith or had different views, which I'm sure prevented us from taking it to the next level.

Sdy had no tryouts before joining NAVI

My first emotion was a surprise. There had been situations before where I could join NAVI, two times, I think. I took it calmly. It was a good chance that I knew I had to take, so I was quite sensible about it. I'm part of the French agency called Prodigy, and my agent, Jerome, contacted NAVI and offered a loan. It all became possible thanks to him, MAD Lions' loyalty, who loaned me out free of charge, and NAVI. As for tryouts, I didn't have any. I just talked to Andrey B1ad3 and Xaoc, that was it. [Besides that] I only exchanged some messages with Perfecto and B1T.

We shook hands, signed the deal, and got down to business. Then we started practicing, but it didn't go without issues. Some had technical difficulties because everyone was in different locations. Overall, the practice games went pretty well, except for a few, maybe. The atmosphere is good, we're putting in the work, and I hope to have as much impact as I can in this short period.

On his dream to join NAVI

Well, it's been a dream of mine all my life to play tier-1 CS and make it to NAVI. That's what I meant by that. It's a huge opportunity and I have to take advantage of it to prove that I belong to this level and I deserve to play here.

On fans and negative comments

I only read DMs and I see that negative comments are like only 0.5%. Most people support me. This is my community, which I've been building throughout my career, though it's not large. I'm sure they'll support me and have no doubts about that at all. As for negative comments, they're always going to be there and it's okay. I don't take it seriously and that's not what I'm here for. I know what I have to do and why I am here.

After leaving Team Spirit on his own accord, sdy briefly played with MAD Lions. He joined NAVI after Boombl4's scandalous departure. Denis electronic Sharipov will try the IGL role at the upcoming BLAST Premier Spring Finals 2022.
