Kosovo mix Bad News Eagles reaches Legends Stage at Antwerp Major

Bad News Eagles, CS:GO squad from Kosovo, made history after surviving Challengers Stage and moving to the Legends of PGL Major Antwerp 2022. On the final day they defeated MIBR with a 2-1 score — Nuke (13:16), Ancient (16:8), and Vertigo (16:10).

BNE's path in the Challengers Stage

This is only the second time when a team without an organization’s support makes it to the main stage of a major. The only one who made it before was B1ad3's daT Team with flamie in 2014. But back then it was an arguably easier task since they got straight to the major’s top-16 through significantly weaker qualifiers.

Bad News Eagles core was assembled in 2019 and then bought by Team Secret. After the following reshuffles and playing for BLINK, the Kosovars found themselves orgless at the beginning of 2022. They went all the way through open qualifiers and appeared strong at the Antwerp RMR.

Their success brought everyone's attention and sympathy. Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, visited Bad News Eagles at their bootcamp and later appeared on socials, wearing their T-shirt and cheering for the home team at PGL Major Antwerp. During the Challengers Stage, a known talent James Banks joined the squad as a General Manager.

What happened?

Now Bad News Eagles are entering the toughest part where they will be seeded quite low against the Legends Teams. But in the first match they will face somewhat of a mirror opponent as Copenhagen Flames had the same dark horse story during the latest major PGL Stockholm 2021.
