Jimpphat: "We have always been playing a pretty good CS against Spirit. Maybe we counter them as a team" Exclusive
Jimi "Jimpphat" Salo sat down to talk to our reporter at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 #2 after MOUZ defeated paiN Gaming. He shared thoughts on his own performance and their rivalry with Team Spirit. His future opponent sh1ro also had a few words, explaining their failure at IEM Cologne 2024.
When asked about his stats against paiN, Jimpphat explained that he just had an off day, and he couldn't do much during the game. He appreciated their level, but acknowledged their underdog status.
I think it was just an off day. Maybe not an off day, but on Vertigo, for example, I was making some silly mistakes. I wasn't able to play, really, because they were also playing really well, and we were struggling a bit. And during Mirage, I felt that I didn’t really have a chance to get in the game. There wasn’t much to talk about on that map. On Nuke, I was playing pretty good. Overall, it was just a bit of a mix of unfortunate and just a bad game from me. <...>
Yeah, even though they got one map away from beating us, that doesn’t change the fact they are still the underdog. They are not on the same level as we are. I’m still confident that we are the best team here, and Spirit is the number 2, of course. We are fighting for the trophy, and the rest are kind of dark horses. MOUZ and Spirit, we are both fan favorites for the win here.
In the next match, MOUZ will fight Team Spirit. Sh1ro revealed in a recent interview for our reporter that his team sees this as a rivalry after a blowout at the first BetBoom Dacha Belgrade, where MOUZ defeated them 3:0. But Jimpphat was confident in his team, and even said that they might have an edge in the match.
I think they are playing pretty well. They are showing much better CS than they showed in Cologne. It will be nice to play against them tomorrow. I hope it will be an interesting match. Playing against donk is always fun, because for me he is the best player in the world. And it is always cool to play against that team, because we both like to wide peek. So it comes up to aim duels.
Against Team Spirit we have always been playing a pretty good CS. Maybe as a team we kind of counter them. I don’t know if that’s true, but I think we always have been playing pretty solid, and we’ve always been one step ahead, I’d say. We will see tomorrow, but we are really confident and looking forward to the game.
IEM Cologne 2024 that Jimpphat mentions was a disaster event for Team Spirit. The team exited this tournament after two losses, with donk having the worst event after joining Spirit. Sh1ro had an explanation for that, but refused to reveal more.
We had some problems in Cologne that we tried to solve before this event. Here we are testing things and getting ready for ESL Pro League 20. We had a few issues outside of the game, and I think we managed to solve those. So, now we are playing better than in Cologne. I can't share more, this is our team business. But it was nothing serious, any team goes through that, so the fans shouldn't worry. Now we are trying to deal with that and move on.
MOUZ and Team Spirit will meet on August 30, at 20:00 CEST. The winner will reach grand final of the BB Dacha Belgrade 2024 #2, which is hosted by FISSURE, while the losing team will fall down to the lower bracket. Eternal Fire, Virtus.pro, or paiN Gaming will be standing between them and an opportunity to get revenge.
