Siuhy on Dust 2: "With our current form as a team, any new map in the pool would be good for us"
MOUZ is coming to BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 as a heavy favorite after big win at ESL Pro League S19. But team's IGL Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek says that this achievement did not hurt their motivation — on the opposite, it only increased their hunger to win. This topic and others were discussed with our reporter after MOUZ defeated Virtus.pro during group stage.
— You came here after winning a big event, EPL S19. How do you regain motivation after such success? Are you still hungry for new wins and to play a lot of CS?
— Yes, because in the tournaments before EPL, we always reached the playoffs and had close results, but never got to win it. Now that we won, it gave us even more hunger to win. So, coming here, I feel that the players are even more comfortable and more confident. They are more motivated to win another tournament. It just gave us a good taste of how victory is.
— During your first match here, you had some issues on Dust 2, but today you completely stomped Virtus.pro on it. Are you becoming more confident with it, or BetBoom Team was just better than VP on that map?
— Yeah, first of all I would say that we practiced Dust 2 quite a lot during EPL, because we knew that this tournament was coming, and we had to expect teams picking it against us. It was a very obvious choice, so we prepared for it.
It's a new map, and we haven't played it in a long time, so these official matches are still kind of getting us into it, we are still learning a few things. It's different whenever you are practicing it, and whenever you are playing an official match. The more we will play it here, the better for us. We are going to be more comfortable with it and get a slight edge over other teams.
— Do you feel it's a good map for your team? Does its addition to the map pool makes MOUZ stronger?
— With the current form that we have as a team, I feel that any map you'd put in the map pool would be good for us. It's too early to say if Dust 2 specifically is a good map for us, there is a lot we need to work on it. So, the time will show, but for now we feel good on it.
— Personally, do you like it, or do you like Overpass more?
— The thing about Overpass being in the map pool, it was quite a different map than two others. It was similar to Nuke. Now with Dust 2 coming in, the maps are more similar to each other because of the play style and map control that you take, and how fast it is. So, I personally like it, and now with the new skyboxes I feel there are going to be slight meta changes or new smokes. People will be cooking new things and we will see fresh stuff on it. So, I'm excited for it, and I like it for now.
— You are a heavy favorite on Vertigo, but you didn't win it. Did Virtus.pro manage to surprise you? What happened?
— I wouldn't say they surprised us, the issue was more on our side. At times, we were getting caught off guard. Or maybe after winning Dust 2, we came into Vertigo a little bit laid-back, and that caused us to play a little off. And there also were some technical issues, so obviously that puts players out of the rhythm during the game.
I'd say even though it was close, on a different day we would probably close it 9 out of 10 times, but not today. But sometimes you just have to lose. But we knew coming to the third map that it would be a comfortable win, and that's what we got.
— When the score was 10:0, were there any ideas to actually try to close it 13:0 for the memes?
— I wouldn't say that we focused on closing it 13:0. Obviously, it would be very nice to do so, but towards the end of the game, when it was 9:0 or something, I was repeating to the guys: “These rounds are still close, so even if we give them these last two rounds, they might get back into the game, so just continue playing like we are playing and be sharp and on top of your game until the end, don't stop”.
— Donk said that he is looking forward to facing you as champions of the last tier-1 event. Are you looking forward to it as well?
— Yeah, last time we played Spirit, we won. I feel that they are a good match-up and a good team to play against. They also have an interesting style, and I personally like competing against players and teams like that. So, I'm hoping for another game. Probably it's going to happen as we are two best teams of the tournament. So, I'm excited for that.
— What do you mean by saying “teams like that”?
— Team Spirit obviously has very good players. They have a good sense of both aggressive and passive style, and I like the way chopper calls. To not go more in-depth of what I know about how they play — obviously, they are a very good team.
