Gambit win IEM Katowice 2021. Sh1ro named MVP
After running through both the play-in stage and the lower bracket of their group stage, Gambit Esports won IEM Katowice. The team has defeated Virtus.pro in the grand final 3:1 (Vertigo 14:16, Dust 2 16:6, Train 16:4, Overpass 16:12), obtaining its biggest title so far along with the $400,000 grand prize.
This is the biggest win for this form of the Gambit roster since they were promoted from the academy squad back in October, ditching the Youngsters title. It's the biggest win for the organization since their unlikely major victory over Immortals at PGL Krakow 2017. They also propelled to the top of the BLAST Premier Global Leaderboard.
Gambit's 19-year-old AWPer Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov claimed the IEM Katowice 2021 MVP award. According to HLTV, sh1ro had above-average ratings in 15 of the 17 maps played, topping five stats leaderboards: KD difference (+111), damage difference per round (+20), deaths per round (0.48), KAST (77.8%), and clutches. With 19 1vsX situations won Sokolov achieved the numbers of the previous record holder, Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev.
Gambit will compete in both the Pinnacle Cup and ESL Pro League Season 13 over the next week.
